what makes a TV a "3D TV"?

Nicolas Cooley: 3D Tv's actually pop out while wearing special glasses. I saw one at Best Buy and it's amazing. The price tag approaches $3000 though.

Linwood Mccory: The 3D TV technology currently being rolled out is called "active shutter." You need a TV with of that specific design and the matching active shutter glasses. No conventional TV, like yours, will display 3D.

Joellen Zorrilla: Well like the others say here, it cannot create miracles, if the movie is 3d you will get good 3d with such a tv , if you watch 2d movies then you can either watch it in 2d like before or try to simulate some kind of quasi-3d basically it will look a little like 3d but you will not get full depth and can never be as good as real 3d of course. just like putting a vhs movie on dvd does not make it dvd quality. So basically the advantage is that the tv can do everything the old ones can and in addition it can present much better 3d than you could get from anamorphic red/ blu! e glasses on an old tv. The quality of 3d is getting better and better and now its getting quite impressive. More and more movies are released as 3d these days....Show more

Tomi Vauters: a 3d TV will have different video processors as well as a IR transmitter to operate the glasses. Your TV isn't compatible.
