India Questions ?

Soraya Coodey: I am in Indian. I am neither poor nor rich. I am graduate and GiVE A DAMNNNN About other peoples...

Lindsey Zanardi: INCOME -India's per capita income (nominal) is $1016, ranked 142th in the world, while its per capita (PPP) of US$2,762 is ranked 129th.States of India have large disparities. One of the critical problems facing India's economy is the sharp and growing regional variations among India's different states and territories in terms of per capita income, poverty, availability of infrastructure and socio-economic development. Although income inequality in India is relatively small (Gini coefficient: 32.5 in year 1999- 2000) it has been increasing of late. Wealth distribution in India is fairly uneven, with the top 10% of income groups earning 33% of the income. Despite significant economic progress, a quarter of the nation's population earns less than the government-specified poverty threshold of $0.40/day. 27.5% of the population was living b! elow the poverty line in 2004â€"2005Source - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Income_in_IndiaHowever at least 10 Indians are listed in the Forbes richest people in the world.EDUCATION -Education in India has a history stretching back to the ancient urban centres of learning at Taxila and Nalanda. Western education became ingrained into Indian society with the establishment of the British Raj. Education in India falls under the control of both the Union Government and the states, with some responsibilities lying with the Union and the states having autonomy for others. The various articles of the Indian constitution provide for education as a fundamental right. Most universities in India are Union or State Government controlled.India has made a huge progress in terms of increasing primary education attendance rate and expanding literacy to approximately two thirds of the population. India's improved education system is often cited as one of the main contributors to the economic ! rise of India. Much of the progress in education has been cred! ited to various private institutions. The private education market in India is estimated to be worth $40 billion in 2008 and will increase to $68 billion by 2012. However, India continues to face challenges. Despite growing investment in education, 40% of the population is illiterate and only 15% of the students reach high school.[4] As of 2008, India's post-secondary high schools offer only enough seats for 7% of India's college-age population, 25% of teaching positions nationwide are vacant, and 57% of college professors lack either a master's or PhD degree. As of 2007[update], there are 1522 degree-granting engineering colleges in India with an annual student intake of 582,000[6], plus 1,244 polytechnics with an annual intake of 265,000. However, these institutions face shortage of faculty and concerns have been raised over the quality of education.Source - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Education_in_IndiaTRAFICKING -India is a source, destination, and transit country for ! men, women, and children trafficked for the purposes of forced labor and commercial sexual exploitation. Internal forced labor may constitute India's largest trafficking problem; men, women, and children in debt bondage are forced to work in industries such as brick kilns, rice mills, agriculture, and embroidery factories. Although no comprehensive study of forced and bonded labor has been carried out, some NGOs estimate this problem affects tens of millions of Indians. Those from India’s most disadvantaged social economic strata are particularly vulnerable to forced or bonded labor and sex trafficking. Women and girls are trafficked within the country for the purposes of commercial sexual exploitation and forced marriage. Children are also subjected to forced labor as factory workers, domestic servants, beggars, and agricultural workers. - U.S. State Dept Trafficking in Persons Report, June, 2009 Source - http://gvnet.com/humantrafficking/India.htm...Show more

! Pasquale Pollet: Well, if you are okay to get all STUPID visa to other ! countries, then you will have to get the STUPID visa to get here. Or if your govt is ready to allow foreigners without a STUPID visa, our govt will also drop this. You are not so reliable to be allowed into the country without a visa so better get one or drop the idea of visiting INDIA.
