Idell Mulliniks: You pay a monthly fee since you have to pay for continuous service. I have a tivo and you have to have the service so you can rewind live TV. Hope this helps!
Luana Carothers: If they still have it, the MUCH better deal is "lifetime". You pay the equivalent of about a year's monthly fees at the beginning and you're never charged a monthly fee for the life of the unit. I have two Tivo boxes, bought a couple of years ago. I paid "lifetime" for both and have never been charged a monthly fee, nor will I. I don't remember what the monthly fee was, sorry, but there IS one (unless you go for the "lifetime" deal).
Guy Bonamico: Tivo is not a glorified VCR. It actually delivers a service. The only thing that a Tivo and VCR have in common is that both records TV programs. A Tivo has many features, such as a searchable TV guide, suggestions, season pass, online services, records programs to transfer to your computer, music service, Yahoo data feed. ! It continuously downloads TV guide information. That is why you have to pay for a service. You can pay per a month fee. By committing to a year or longer, you will get one of two benefits:1) You get a monthly discount.2) Or you get a free Tivo or discounted Tivo?...Show more
Lon Pennington: Once you get it and start using it you will understand why you have to pay and you will realize it is sooooo worth it!
