What makes a car "JDM"

Anibal Katayama: JDM means it originated from the Japanese Domestic Market. Well I guess adding the Ferio badge from the 92 to 00 Civics would help. As well as making it a right hand drive, & having a JDM Honda Civic engine. Try http://passwordjdm.com-A Si & SiR essentially are the same. The SiR was the earlier named used before Si. The Type R could be described as the nowadays European & Japanese version of the American Si.-CTR means Civic Type R so that's the spoiler for that car-Not too sure about this 1-Type Rs are not released in the US. They are available in the European & Japanese Domestic Markets....Show more

Joie Libutti: there are alot of different ways to make your honda a "jdm car" it's all how far you want to get into it, i mean, if you want a full-on JDM Honda, then you might as well get a civic shipped from japan over here, but as far as converting yours, lol, i'll be honost, i went to ebay for my civic and got "jdm headlights" which are basically jus! t blacked-out headlight lenses, uhmm.. yea.. it depends on how far you wanna go. there isn't any civic type r's in america. in america a civic type r is basically our civic si. we do however have the integra type r tho here in america. my biggest tip of advice is say you have a civic, hop on ebay, look up jdm civic stuff, a majority of it is all fake stuff, but it all looks the same as top dollar genuine jdm ****. like my headlights for example. yeah, hope i hepled. ...Show more

Inge Mclaurine: Basically Si is just the designation for our top model Civics, SiR is their high end models with bigger engines than we get (as well as Canada's top model), and the Type R is their top end racing model with an even better engine. From '95 and older models, our top end models got the SOHC D-series engines, over in Japan they got the DOHC B16A's as well as more aggressive suspension parts. At that point Honda was known here simply for good reliable & economic cars, so there was! n't really a need to make a really performance oriented model.! Over in Japan however, they had cars like the Nissan Skylines & Silvias, Mitsubishi Evolutions & Suburu Imprezas. So Honda HAD to build some performance oriented cars to somewhat compete in that market.Chassis Codes: http://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=1928390The only Type R in the US was the Integra Type R. We never got a Civic Type R, NSX Type R, Accord Euro R, etc., like Japan and Europe have/had. The Type R cars are built as a street model of a road racing car. Here in the US, people are more into drag racing than road racing or SCCA racing, so there's really not much of a market for that sort of thing here (at least not on a big scale).Basically JDM, or more specifically the "JDM style" consists of a few things. Honda sold many different standard & optional parts for most of their models, that weren't available here in the US. So people get those parts shipped over here and put them on a USDM car. There are also many different aftermarket performance parts com! panies over in Japan, that haven't been sold here in the US until fairly recently. Stuff from companies like Mugen, Spoon Sports, Tein, etc. They tend to be pretty rare here in the US, as well as expensive. So it's basically putting on as many authentic Japanese parts as possible. Most of the parts, like the Type R cars, were originally created for added performance for road racing, but are rarely used as such. People also tend to paint their cars in certain earth tones as well, browns, grays, black, white, olive greens, golds, etc. As well as amber or smoked amber side markers, front corner lenses, and interior lights. One major issue people have now are all the companies who sell products that look similar to authentic JDM parts, basically knockoffs. Those parts tend to be much less expensive, but usually aren't as good of a quality or fitment than the original parts. In those cases, things become more of a style rather than anything. Some people also think of "! JDM" not so much as just Japanese parts, but just as a "clean" stock lo! oking car. Pretty much the JDM look has become the style that people follow. Where people use to put neons under their cars, clear tail lights, huge aluminum wings, big chrome rims, bright flashy paint jobs, aggressive body kits, and randomly placed multi color piece everywhere; jdm is just the new trend. It's actually pretty funny, because over in Japan the popular look over there is with the stuff I just mentioned; big body kits, huge wings, flashy colors, etc. So we're trying to copy what they were doing to their cars 10+ years ago, and now they are trying to copy what we were doing 10+ years ago....Show more

Lashawnda Anteby: What Is Jdm Car

Zora Mazzie: For the best answers, search on this site https://shorturl.im/j64L4As everyone has said JDM is Japanese Domestic Market and JDM is to make your car look as such. For your 92 Accord I would recommend a subtle front lip, some Rota wheels, (not actually JDM but look like it) a roof rack, and some coilovers. Oh yeah and LOTS of stickers on the windows....Show more

Jeremy Donohue: Yes. JDM stands for Japanese Domestic Market.

Theresia Fashaw: I've heard that older models of the Civic Type-R are here in the US too. Is that true?
