Judie Kise: Poverty, poor education system, poor health programs. Our people are desperately in need of an administration that will help our country.Until then desperate people will resort to desperate means to survive, including crime, sex. You answered your own question but you did not include a solution.
Darnell Cutliff: I have traveled in the Philippines alone 3 times, and had no problems. I was in Mindanao, which everybody says is so dangerous, but I found nothing but friendly, loving people there. Cebu is no more dangerous than any big city anywhere in the world. If you look for trouble, you can find it. There are a lot of poor people in Cebu and Manila, just trying to survive. You can't fault them for trying to get some of your money into their pockets. What might be a day's goofing around money to you, would be someone else's support for their family for a week. Keep that in mind when you barter with someone for anything you buy. Stay away from the bars and n! ightclubs, unless you know how to take care of yourself. These places are where some of the bad guys look for drunk people to take advantage of. I actually prefer the south islands to Manila or Cebu, but I am also 6'2", and trained by the Marines how to fight. Although my fighting skill comforts me, it has never been needed while traveling the Philippines....Show more

Katheryn Skrobacki: its safe in philippines just as long as you are smart. Just dnt go to rebel places like the southern part of the phil. The truth is filipino loves to help foreigners, they arent harsh on you. btw what i mean about being smart is be cautious dnt offend people, and filipinos hate people who are loud and bossy, if you treat filipinos right they will also treat you right.!

Brock Anwar: Living Conditions In The Philippines
Elden Bardach: Come on Princess N. Give the country a chance. I'm not filipino and I come from a very clean and green country. But I do not despise Philippines at all. As the saying says - to each his own. I'm sure this applies to countries as well. You cannot compare until like this. Imagine if you are a filipino and you heard your country being despised on, you surely won't feel good. You instead do not earn any respect from us and you just depreciated yourself in our views. In short, you sucks!Housing - Well, to me its something like what we call here as kampung. Simple but still its a home. A home is a home. The conditions may not be very good, LCD TV or big refrigerator with leather sofas around. But the simpli! city makes it very nice and cosy, just any house will be. Its about the people.. To me when I'm there, its a learning experience, staying with squatters, learning their lifestyle. Its interesting. Healthwise I think its not very good but when I was there I do not have any problem with the drinking water. Washing the vegetables and food with ground water pumped out from underground sources. But its not safe to drink the ground water though.Education. I do not know, i didn't visit any schools there. But my girlfriend is well-educated i think. So I think education wise its not of a problem but only whether the school is good or not. I'm sure the system of education works in the Philippines. Food. Hmmz, usually all local kinds of fishes, and live - animals. Don't usually see imported vegetables. Maybe the only markets I visited are in the provinces so I do not think they cater to much imported food there. Food usually do not give any problems to the stomach in the philippines b! ut do be careful where you eat at. Preferbly at fast food joints and pr! oper food courts. I usually do not eat at road side stalls if possible as I'm sure the hygiene is not that great. At filipino homes, their hygiene is good and its not like us chinese who use chopsticks for everything. They do use serving spoons to serve the food. Overall, I think Philippines is a great country to learn the culture and living ways of the local people takes a long time. But Its interesting to me. Nevermind the poor standard of living. Every country has a poor standard of living before its becomes a good standard of living. Work hard Philippines.Mabuhay! ...Show more

Warren Kotter: I think some countries such as japan set a lower standard for immigrants to be allowed in but not all countries. Those countries that set a low standard for immigrants do so not only to Filipino people but to all people. Other countries set higher expectations for all immigrants. Thats just a narrow field of ! vision to think that. Its the opposite. Most Filipino people who go to other countries are professionals, unlike illegal immigrants who cross into borders of neighboring countries illegally....Show more
Cassondra Vanholland: 1. if a filipina can earn more as a maid working overseas than as working as an engineer in the philippines, it is hard to find anything disgraceful in this hard work. 2. Filipina sex workers not only earn much more money overseas but also more status, dignity and respect. Filipina bargirls at the ubiquitous local karaoke joints in the philippines are lucky to earn a few hundred pesos guzzling warm beers in a raunchy, filthy, bar with randy grab-ast patrons. The disrespect, insults and stigma suffered outside the bars is worse than thier working conditions. A Filipino JapayukiSan in a classy, clean, tasteful, Japanese karaoke club may earn tens of thousands of pesos for charming more respectful, dignified companions in a more elegant, clean, s! afe and relaxed workplace. In the japanese language, 'san' is similar t! o the suffix 'po', conveying respect. Japan has a thousand year history of entertainment, art & culture centered around JapayukiSan, KariukiSan, Gehsia, etc. These occupations are regarded more similar to artists, actors, singers or entertainers, with social status similar to highly skilled artisans and a class above peasants, laborers, etc..Frankly, the filipina girls in grubby local filipino bars, desparate for a few pesos, have it much worse than the filipina girls that follow thier dreams and make it out of the ghettos. "....... with the internationalisation of Japan things began to change, and soon enough karayuki-san were considered shameful. During the 1910s and 1920s, Japanese officials overseas worked hard to eliminate Japanese brothels and maintain Japanese prestige.".. (in the western victorian/puritan colonial mentality)The reasons filipinas are popular as housemaids and entertainers overseas is the same reason filipinas are also popular as nurses overseas: t! hey simply do a better job; have better, more pleasant demeanor; natural warmth, friendliness, talent and abilities; interact better with others, and work harder than the competition....Show more

Arleen Bussing: If it's just the issue they are not alone, Bulgaria, middle-east, whole asia even china if they are not asian like others thinks, Belgium,Spain,France, Russia, Czechoslovakia, the US are making prostitution whether luxury prostitution or cheap prostitution still prostitution you can change the name upside down it is prostitution. So concerning your question, it's not that grave but still grave for a country like the Philippines since it's b! ecoming the main resources of the country like Thailand or Birmanie eve! n India so you shouldn't be shock, I don't say it's good but what would you do if the country is not progressing. Those chinese you have in the Philippines are getting richer with your money they are using you like their slaves in your own country why not move, throw them out back to their countryThose chinese use Philippines as a base of earning they expand their territory and who knows what they are concocting to fire you back with it as they are known for tyranny. Can't you see when they succeed with their business thanks to you the first thing they put as a responsible of the business, Chinese from the Philippines or they call a chinese direct from china so like that the wealth revolve among the family inside the family. They will never leave the Philippines, they make you believe but false besides the actual chinese government doesn't want those chinese back who left china they are not welcome from the day they left china the door is close for them, perhaps some can sti! ll go back but they are millions outside china where they're going to live?Pilipinos open your eyes and use your brains.Besides how come that most of the chinese in the philippines are rich rare you see poor one, why? It's not their country and they are succeeding it should be the opposite, they can afford to go to the most expensive schools, private schools etc, and they are foreigners, don't you ask yourselves why? The filipinos are hardly achieve something they remain the slave of the chinese, in Europe the chinese are the slaves, they are chinese it's normal they are not in their country, but philippines is not an extention of china so why you let yourselves enslaves by the chinese, soon they going to put you in the public square to be beheaded because you oppose them like they do in china to their own people...Show more

Faustino Mellerson: This answer would be completely dependent upon one thing:MONEY. If you have money (ie: enough to live a lower to upper middle class life in the U.S.), then lifestyle is great b/c everything is so cheap and affordable to you. (maids, cheap foods at your disposal, a/c, cars, clothing! , etc.) But for the other 2/3 of the countrymen, life sucks. Living conditions are pretty bad, with Manila being the worst. Alden Soldano: hi. im irwin and im from the philippines.the general living condition here in my country is good. That I can assure you. Philippines is a third world country striving hard to lessen, if not to eradicate poverty. Our government is working hard to achieve this goal. Housing in the Philippines is good. You can find the cheapest house for ab! out $80 per month, that is in the suburban areas or in high-end manila (first class cities) from $200-$400. Food is not that expensive as compared to other sutheast asian countries. Although the gasoline price is indeed soaring, all commodities follow. Its expected because like other countries, we are oil dependent. Eating in an ordinary carinderia, complete with drinks (soda or water), viand, rice and fruit (banana usually) would cost you at most $2 (thats Php 86.00 in the current exchange of $1=Php43). By the way, you still have change for that! Or if you're classy and can afford, you can have your meal regularly in a fastfood chain, where it will cost you around $2-$3 or classy restaurant for $5-$10. With regards water, its very safe here. Water here in the philippines is potable. You can buy of course mineral water or treated water. Health is fair ( I swear!) because all of our nurses and doctors, or should i say medical practitioners in general are leaving the country! for greener pasture. Education is excellent. We have a lot of foreigne! rs here in country studying in diffreent colleges and universities. As of my reading, we have almost 3000 koreans enrolled in different universities and colleges in the country. Israeli, lebanese, japanese, taiwanese, indonesians, thai, malaysians, pakistani, nigerians etc. opted to study here as well. Thus, what i can say only is that Philippines has a good living condition as compared to other asian countries. hope you'll find this helpful.
