Books about collies? Other various collie questions?

Lyman Gauld: There are tons of books out there at well known book stores like Barnes and Nobel and Borders on popular dog breeds, but if you can't find any there, you can definitely find some online. The problem with books on dogs is that most of them waste over half of the book going over general dog care instead of breed specific information which is annoying. If you gave up on dog books, I'd suggest trying to find a reputable Collie breeder in your area. A good one would have spent years breeding Collies and would know more about them than anyone else because of their experience. I'm sure they would be willing to answer your questions. By the way, cute dog! :)...Show more

Corrinne Ruozzo: Haha, the rough collie isn't exactly a popular breed anymore. I have tried looking in book stores as well, and some pet stores have book sections but nothing there either. I USED to have a book by Hal Sundstrom, it was less than 100 pages and didn't cover the material exten! sively. Like you said, most of these books cover grooming and other simple things that I'm already well aware of. :(We found a guy who breeds collies in the area but he is in no way reputable, he's a BYB. We went to check him out and we left without looking back. He had a gorgeous merle but off-offhandedly mentioned the dog bites and was temperamental; I don't understand why people want to breed that kind of stuff into dogs. It's hard to find collies in this area that aren't BYB; my step-dad went up near Chicago last year to get the first puppy (the dog I would like to show came second, and was a lucky find at that). There are all manners of ads for them, but nothing respectable. There *IS* the Collie Club of Kent...Show more

Bryan Avinger: There *IS* the Collie Club of Kentucky but you have to be invited from inside the circle to gain access. For some reason it cut that off even though I wasn't over the character limit...?
