Does my hobby is useless?

Janita Tetlow: If you are spending all of your spare time on the hobby then your mother may be right. Think about it, if you were to have a hobby that would lead you into a good paying job later on in life or just a job that would be a backup should something happen and you lose your normal job. There is going to be a big demand for robot builders in the future. I don't think there will be many calls for Xbox players or car kit builders. How are your writing skills? A good paying job will require them. How about your math skills? Your reading skills? Same for them. If not good then spend your spare time on them as well as on your hobby. Then mom will shut up..... trust me, when she sees you studying real hard, she won't mind you taking a break with your hobby...... It's pretty hard to say to an A+ student your hobby is a wasting your time........Show more

Hans Sachetti: Yes. Occupy time, piece of mind and enjoyment. Hobbies become profitable once you a! re proficient at them and have collection you can sell.Peace.

Maynard Phoubandith: I was in a similar situaition. It was because of my parents, saying that it was useless, and that i would gain nothing, well i did actually. I got a little smarter(After watching SpongeBob over the summer since i had nothing to do xD then i found out it made you dumb so i made a terrible choice, then i took up gunpla and now i love it but unfortunately due to school i cant make anymore) I got more skill, before i couldnt figure out how to manipulate super glue well, now i can. I know good techniques to cover up scratches, Ex: On my laptop. Gunpla is my hobby as well. I try and buy cheap models, but the most expensive was the Pg 1/60 Aile Strike Gundam with Sky Grasper Clear edition, that was a big boy xD.And i had something to do! People at my school say the just lounge around on their smartphones and do games, what do Gunpla makers do? We make Scaled Model kits, we arent just talking ! about some plane that is static, im talking about one that can! move! Rg kits have parts that move as you bend, do planes do that? I think not! And think about it, it requires some concentration if you do it like me, i focus on the details and how i could make sure it lasts long enough, Ex: Making sure the pegs are firm, making sure the poly caps dont get too weak etc. Sure if you buy too many it will be a waste but if you build like say 10 in a year it wont be too much! (say you pay 30 bucks for a Good Hg Gundam thats $300 if you only buy 10)...Show more

Marcellus Exler: The benefit from a hobby is relaxation not to make money.

Barton Sease: If you feel your hobby is a benefit to you tell your mother why. Let her know that doing something so intricate is helping you to determine if the hobby is a help for you in the future in getting a job as the information coming out now is getting into a field of computers as working on them would be intricate and the field has yet to reach it's prime. Ask her if she has any ideas as ! to something she thinks you should get into.

Ronny Nowzari: You enjoy it so how is it a waste of time. What does she think you hobby should be? Watching TV?

Hyo Hardell: Of course it isn't. Plenty of benefit you can, or any one can get "out of" building Gunpla kits. Although they are really meant to be "put in-to" your modelling/kits, from the outside; hence the "out of."How about doing photography (photo-shooting) on your models? That will teach you alot about composing, staging, lighting, and settingthe mood for your surroundings. Through Photography, you'll also be learning about cameras, digital editing, and print processing. How about building Diorama displays for your kit? Any Hobby magazines(usually from the JP imports, by month) always showcase a few tutorialson 'How to builds.' These tutorials, along with airbrushing, hand painting, and scarfing, and form-building, all teaches you eye-to-hand coordinationskills, sculpting skills, and the understanding and ! use of various materialsthat will prove useful in your future job searc! hes. With people start uploading model-building videos onto Online-channelslike Youtube, now-a-days, it is fairly easy to get a hold of these pieces of informtion and to practice them on your own. The most important things arethus: to extrapolate these hobbies! : ) Good Luck!...Show more
